5 Ways to Recycle and Re-Use an Empty Gerber Puffs Container

Any parent of self-feeding babies and toddlers probably has their share of Gerber puffs containers in the recycling bin.

These Gerber puff containers can be recycled and re-reused for other purposes. Don't recycle them yet, they still can be useful in your kitchen.

The first thing to do before recycling and reusing is to rinse out the plastic Gerber Puffs Container and the cover. While the puffs themselves are not messy, they can leave a slightly sweet and flavored powder behind.

Second, basically for sanity purposes, remove the plastic label from the recycled container. If the child sees the recycled container he or she may think it has puffs and will want it. Simply cut a slit at the bottom of the label. It comes off quite easily, no soaking required. Now you are ready to recycle and reuse the plastic container.

5 Uses for an Empty Gerber Puffs Container

1. To Hold Dry Beans

Dry beans are an inexpensive household pantry staple. Unfortunately, they also come packaged inexpensively in thin plastic bags that don't like to re-close properly. Sometimes these dry beans will be sitting in the cabinet for a while, and their packaging can get ripped and damaged, and then out spill the beans.

The Gerber Puffs container is large enough to hold nearly a pound of lentils or other dried beans. Secure the cover after pouring in the beans. Use a permanent Sharpie marker to label the recycled container and store.

2. To Hold Stray Pasta

When you cook pasta, are you left with 1/4 of the box? Combine these stray portions of pasta in the recycled Gerber Puffs container. They can be used for soups, or for a fun pasta variety. Keep similar sized pasta together, since the cooking times may differ by one or two minutes. Again, label the container and store.

3. Loose Cookies

If you buy animal crackers in large bags, the bags do not last. Keep the animal crackers fresh by storing them in the recycled Gerber Puffs container.

4. Loose Cereal.
