A clean litter box may not be the only issue of concern when it comes to making your kitty happy. Many cats will not use a litter box if it is shared with other cats in the house. Cats like to have their own litter box as they like to have space which is only theirs. Some cats even prefer to have two litter boxes of their own. The type of litter box may be the problem. Some cats like a closed in litter box, while others prefer an open box. Be sure that you cat can use his litter box with ease. The size as well as the shape of the litter box can be of importance. Some cats depending on their age as well as health conditions may have difficulty getting in and out of litter boxes which have an enclosed top. Take time to observe you cat when they go to their litter box to see if this is an issue for them.
There are different types of kitty litter on the market today. Some clump together for easy removal while others are loose clay while others are green which has the appearance of grass. You may find that your cat will not use kitty litter which clumps together because this type of litter will also tend to hang on to their paws. Cats are very particular animals and they like to stay clean.
Before you loose patients with your cat for not using the litter box, take him to the vet to make sure that there are no medical issues which are causing the problem. Cats like humans can have urinary infections, kidney failure, bladder problems and even diabetes. Your vet will be able to treat any medical conditions your cat may have which are resulting in household accidents.
After you have found out why your cat is not using the litter box, be sure to thoroughly clean the areas in which your cat has had his accidents. This is necessary so that your cat will not smell this odor in the areas of the home which he should not be using for his bathroom.
