The 1996 Green Bay Packers Versus the 2009 Minnesota Vikings
Who Wins in a Head-to-Head Game? Who is Better?
A few weeks ago, Brett Favre commented about the 2009 Minnesota Vikings being the most talented team he had ever been on, even moreso than the Super Bowl club from 1996. Leroy Butler and Mark Chumra apparently do not agree. Mark Chumra couldn't even find a position that the 2009 Minnesota Vikings had an advantage on over the 1996 Green Bay Packers.Do I agree with Mark Chumra? Here is a biased Packer fan's assessment of the two teams and a comparison of each.
1996 Green Bay Packers versus 2009 Minnesota Vikings: Quarterbacks
Packers - Brett Favre from 1996
Vikings - Brett Favre from 2009
No explanation needed. Anyone that watches football knows that Brett Favre was at his best in the mid and late 90s.
Advantage: 1996 Green Bay Packers
1996 Green Bay Packers versus 2009 Minnesota Vikings: Running Backs
The 1996 Green Bay Packers running game consisted of Edgar Bennett and Dorsey Levens. Both running backs were effective and efficient in the running and passing game as the Green Bay Packers were one of the best screen teams in the 90s.
The 2009 Minnesota Vikings have Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor. If Adrian Peterson can stay healthy, he has a chance to be one of the leagues all-time elite running backs. Imagine what the 1996 Green Bay Packers would have been like with a 2009 Adrian Peterson.
I hope Mark Chumra was not suggesting that Dorsey Levens and Edgar Bennett were better than Adrian Peterson.
Advantage: 2009 Minnesota Vikings
1996 Green Bay Packers versus 2009 Minnesota Vikings: Wide Receivers
The 1996 Green Bay Packers had a stable of good, but not great receivers. They had Antonio Freeman, Andre Rison, Derrick Mayes, and Robert Brooks.
The 2009 Minnesota Vikings have athletic receivers. They have Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, and Greg Lewis.
