The Eagles Clobber the Skins 27-17
But the Win Exposed Several of Birds Offensive Deficiencies
The Eagles destroyed Washington 27-17. The final score was closer than the game indicated. The Birds took control from the opening whistle. This was one of those classic slaughters.Yes, the Birds dominated the Skins on both sides of the line of scrimmage. However, there are a few a warning signs that the Eagles must address. These dangers signs are on the offensive side of the ball. McNabb and the boys had to settle for two field goals in the second quarter.
Instead of putting the game out of reach, these two missed opportunities left the door ajar for the Skins. This could have proved costly if it wasn't for the kick ass Eagles "D".
The Bums shut em down time after time in the red zone. The Birds recorded five sacks, one interception, and three fumble recoveries.
The Bums made life a living hell for Skins QB Jason Campbell. Each time Campbell dropped back to pass, he had a least three rushers in his face. This pressure forced Campbell to scramble out of danger. If Campbell wasn't running for his life, he was either thrown for a loss or he had to throw the ball into coverage before he got creamed. This was a horror field for Campbell Monday night.
The only time Campbell was able to get into a rhythm was on the final meaningless drive of the game. That was it. Other than Campbell played like crap.
The Eagles "D" saved the day. The "O" played okay but for the most part the Birds had a crappy performance. If you heard those clowns in the booth, you would have thought McNabb was Moses leading the people to the Promised Land. Not!
The difference in the game was the Eagles "D" played lights. Except for two really big plays, the "D" won the game.
From my perspective, McNabb and company struggled offensively. McNabb time and time again over threw his receivers. He missed way too many short passes as well as long ones.
Sure McNabb and super tiny man DeSean Jackson hooked up on a thrilling 57-yard pitch and catch TD with two minutes left in the half. Jackson added a wild 67-yard end around scamper to open up the game.
