Guppies are very colorful fish and they are great for a large tank. Guppies cost around $6.00 a pair but usually each female guppy will have around 20 babies. You can start out by purchasing 10 pairs of guppies. Make sure you buy a lot of decorations and other things for your baby guppies to hide in when they are born. You can also bring the female guppies out and place them in a breeder trap. This will keep the babies below and the female in a seperate area. Guppies are livebearers which means that they deliver live babies instead of laying eggs. The babies will shoot out in a circle ball and swim away. Guppies can have anywhere from 1 to 60 babies by the time they are 2 years old. The biggest and oldest female guppies will give birth to over 60 guppies. With 10 guppies having 1-60 babies at least once per month, this will add quite nicely to your fish tank. Make sure that you have enough room for all of the guppies. I wouldn't suggest buying guppies online because they could send you sick guppies, which happens a lot.
I would go to the pet store and purchase male guppies and female guppies. The male guppies have more color and their whole body is a certain color. The female guppies only have color on their tails. Female guppies are always pregnant you will most likely receive all pregnant females from the pet store unless they are kept in different tanks than the male guppies. Baby guppies are very hard to see but they are also very cute. The male and female guppies will eat the baby guppies if you don't seperate them or provide enough hiding places.
