In this tutorial, I will be showing you a very easy way to make brushed chrome text in Photoshop. It really is quite simple and only requires you to apply layer styles to the text, so let's get started.

Create a new document (Ctrl + N) with a white background. Now with the text tool write out some text that you want to apply this effect to. You can use any font you want, thicker ones seem to work better so use the bold option of your font if you have one. For this tutorial I am using arial black. Also, make sure that your text is black

Now we apply the layer styles to make your chrome text.

In the layers window, right click on your text layer and click blending options. The first style we are going to add is a drop shadow, so click the box next to the drop shadow style to enable it. Then click on it text part to edit the style, leave everything at its default setting except for opacity which we will set to 85%.

Now click on the satin style, we will need to edit its options a little bit more than the previous style. Set the depth to 325%, then set the highlight and shadow modes both to normal and set the shadow color to white (#FFFFFF). Finally set the opacity for the highlight to 100% and the opacity for the shadow to 50%.

Move down one style to the satin style and click on it to edit its options as done before. Set the satin color to white (#FFFFFF) and the blend mode to normal. Set the opacity to 60% and the angle to 90 degrees, and then set the distance to 14 px and the size to 16 px. Make sure that you check the box next to anti-aliased as well.

The final style is the gradient overlay to soften the colors some, nothing too complicated here. Just use the default settings but reduce the opacity to about 40%. You can also reverse the gradient if you want, but that's all up to your personal preference.

An optional step if you want your text to look a bit more defined is to add the inner shadow layer style. All I did was I lowered the opacity some to about 50% or so, and then I increase the distance and size to 7.

There you have it, brushed chrome text all done just by applying a few layer styles.
