Berks County Area Pennsylvania - Fun Ideas for the Thanksgiving Holiday

Train, Parade, and Wine; Thanksgiving Events Berks County, Pennsylvania

I'm new to the Berks county area in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. I was looking for some fun filled activities to do with my family and friends. So I've taken the time to find some unique, traditional, and fun things for you and your family to do to celebrate the season of thanks.

"All aboard!" the engineer calls. I can hear it now as I hustle my children to climb the steps to board the old train. This fun filled dinner ride starts at the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad Station in Middletown, PA. It's about an hours drive from Berks County. The unique "Thankful Train Dinner" leaves Saturday Nov. 21, 2009 at 5 pm for a marvelous time of dinner out on the rails for two hours. Each table seats 4-6 people. The price is $45 per adult and children $35 each.

You want something a little less expensive? How about the traditional Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade! The great city of brotherly love is only a little over an hours drive for those of us in Berks County. The parade begins at 8:30 in the morning and lasts until about noon time. This is the oldest Thanksgiving Day parades in the country and yes this year includes Santa too! It might just be the perfect thing for dad to take the kids to and get them out of the house while mom makes the scrumptious meal to indulge in and fill those hungry bellies after a morning of parade viewing!

After the busy holiday is over and the dishes have all been cleaned, it's time for the adults to have a fun relaxing day at the Thanksgiving Friday wine tasting at Waltz Vineyards. Again, it is a short trip of approximately one hour from Berks County. You could choose either Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving from 11 am - 5 pm. You might be able to get some Christmas shopping done as well by buying a few bottles for some special family and friends as gifts.

I'm looking forward to trying some of these events close to Berks County Pennsylvania this Thanksgiving and I hope I've given you some good ideas to share with your family and friends. Whether it's on a train, at a parade, or sipping wine with friends, just remember to give thanks for all we have been blessed with as Americans!
