1. Vet Visit: It is important to take the time to visit the vet before introducing the new stray dog to the family.
2. Dog Proof Your House: For those families that already have dogs, this may be easier however it is important to make sure the house is safe for a new pet. The new pet will need a special place of his/her own before meeting other family pets. It may take time to get adjusted to a loving family, that is may have high anxiety and meeting other pets would just increase that already high level. Try getting a special fence to go in the house for pets. They can be purchased at most pet stores around the nation. A pet fence usually is made of good quality metal and has metal clasps at each end. These clasps allow the fence to make a complete circle encaging a stray pet that has not been trained to go in a kennel. They are much easier for larger dogs that are afraid. Just image trying to put an angry dog into a small kennel compared to putting one in an open fenced in area.
