Talent: Blessing or Curse
How many of you out there are just sick and tired of hearing about these young, talented, famous teenage girls screwing up their lives? I know I am!
I know I will never understand what they deal with, as I will never be in their shoes. However, what these girls seem to prove, time and time again, is that success, fame and fortune simply do not bring happiness.
Let's take Lindsay Lohan, for example. Her career started at an early age, with commercials, and at age 12, she did a fabulous job as the precocious set of twins in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. She has starred in many movies since, including Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. How can someone with the looks, intelligence, talent, and potential she has, just throw this all away?
Is it the prevalence of liquor and drugs these girls have access to that leads them down the wrong path? No, I don't buy that. The availability of liquor and drugs can be found in all neighborhoods, rich or poor, city or suburb. The famous do not have a monopoly on temptations for teenagers.
Is it simply the sex-laden environment? No, I don't buy that either. Sex is everywhere...television, movies, music...and the schools.
So what does influence them? I think there are several things. First, I think they are constantly looking for approval, and their success fails to bring the happiness they think it should. For all of their prima donna antics, I think they have poor self-esteem. (Don't get me wrong, some are simply on power trips...)
Second, I think they find themselves in more situations that they don't know how to handle simply because they often haven't had the same socialization that other kids their age have had.
Third, all teenagers make mistakes, only there isn't a guy with a camera following them and capturing their every moment on tape.
