Up and coming Canadian musician Taylor Mitchell has died from wounds sustained from 2 coyotes. Taylor Mitchell was hiking alone on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia. People heard Mitchell's screams and called park rangers. The rangers did make it there in time to shoot one of the coyotes. One reporting source said that the coyote was killed and sent to a pathology lab. Another said the coyote was only wounded and escaped with the other coyote. The singer died on the way to the hospital from her wounds. The coyotes had bitten her many times and the paramedics said she was in critical condition when they found her and she had lost a lot of blood.
Taylor Mitchell was a new talent that was on the rise. Her debut CD is called "For Your Consideration". She had just turned 19 and gotten her driver's license. She loved the woods and appreciated the beauty of them. Taylor Mitchell was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award this year in the young performer of the year category.
Coyotes are not an animal that is known to be extremely aggressive, especially with people. Coyotes are shy by nature. Rabies can make coyotes aggressive enough to attack. If one of the coyotes was indeed killed, it will most certainly be tested for rabies.
Coyotes usually feed on small animals. Usually a shout or a stick will deter a coyote. But a lone coyote is apt to be more shy than one that has a mate or a pack with it. Some have speculated that Taylor Mitchell may have been frightened by the coyotes and that she may have started running. The coyotes may have looked at her as a deer and attacked her.
Coyotes attacking humans is a fairly rare occurrence and this should in no way cause hysteria against them. Authorities are trying to figure out what happened. No other recent attacks from coyotes on humans have been reported there.

It is strange that the coyotes attacked her. They must have been starving or sick! What a sad story!

Such a disturbing story. Even though a coyote attack is rare it still scares me. Animal Control won't do anything about coyotes around here. :(
Ohhh, this is so very sad! I love God, but one must wonder why he allows things like this to happen...until its purpose reveals itself somehow. How awful.

Unique story! I just talked to 2 veteran bowhunters in the woods across from my home. They told me they saw 2 bigger than usual coyotes hunting together crossing through our back yard yesterday. I'd never seen 2 together but I caught one taking down a young deer two years ago. I ran it off but it kind of scared me a little because it didn't want to get off the fawn. I thought for a moment of running the other way but then the thing took off... That one was awful big; the others I saw were tall but scrawny. Very interesting story--my wife will also like to read this. I'm a little worried about my dog, a GSD, so maybe I will go hunting for them. I wouldn't have to worry much about our other dog, now deceased. He'd gone after bears and came back to me in pretty decent shape, a little ripped up but with bear blood and hair in his mouth. Wow! I've been around coyotes plent of times...always was freaked, but thought I could take one if I have to....they don't usually hunt together, either...so strange!! This poor girl, 19....she must have been terrified, and then to acually lose her life.....great report, very sad :(
