Paris Hilton Sentenced to Jail

Los Angeles Superior Court judge Michael Sauer sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail for violating her terms of probation. She was ordered to report to jail on June 5th. To Americans who have become accustomed to the rich and famous being treated differently
Paris Hilton Sentenced to Jail
in America the ruling is a breath of fresh air. It was probably quite a surprise to Paris Hilton.

Earlier this year Hilton was given three years probation stemming from a September arrest for drunk and reckless driving. She pleaded no contest to the first arrest. Police stopped her in January and she was told at the time she was on a suspended license, even signing to a document acknowledging the fact. She was again stopped in February while driving down Sunset Boulevard without headlights. Police impounded her Bentley.

Her spokesman said after the second incident that Paris Hilton was not aware she was driving on a suspended license. A signed copy of the suspension order was found in the glove compartment of the Bentley. Hilton was also required to enroll in an alcohol education program by February 12th, and she had neglected to do so.

Hilton tried to tell the judge she was not aware that her license had been suspended. She said she didn't know what she was signing when she put her signature on the document indicating her driving privileges had been revoked.

"I'm very sorry and from now on I'm going to pay complete attention to everything. I'm sorry and I did not do it on purpose at all." She told the judge prior to the sentence being handed down. The judge apparently has heard the "I didn't know" defense before. And this time the rich and famous person in front of him was treated like someone who had violated her probation, not as a celebrity in court. Refreshing indeed.

Showing that the fruit didn't fall far from the tree, Paris Hilton's mother Kathy Hilton laughed at the prosecutor when the prosecutor suggested jail time. When the judge handed down the sentence she mocked him with "May I have your autograph?" She also called the proceedings "a joke" and "this is a pathetic reality show." At one point a baliff had to tell her to be quiet.

I doubt very much she'll spend more than a few days in jail especially with the overcrowding.

Good Job. Well written. The judge is not trying to make an example out of Paris Hilton. A very good thing do to with our tax money is to get drunk and reckless drivers off the streets. Paris Hilton Is not harmless behind the wheels of an automobile. The last time she was stopped; she was speeding with her lights OFF. Not to mention her license was suspended. The judge had no reason not to like Paris Hilton. He gave her so many chances. She needs to accept responsibility for her actions.

I think this is awesome. If it were anyone else the same thing would have happened, if not a worse sentence. She got what she deserves, lets not forget that there were 2 counts of violation one for driving, "I didn't know" too bad ignorance is not innocence, and one for failing to enroll in alcohol education. The only way this could get better is if she doesn't show up and gets 90 days, maybe she'll wake up now.

Ah Jeff look at all this controversy your article is generating. People who are arresting and living on probation need to make it a point to know the terms they are to follow to avoid jail. And it's not just the driving folks, she also failed to enroll in the program she was required to enroll in- it's about time she took responsibility for her actions.

I believe the judge is trying to compensate for all of the other past convictions that had fell threw because of "star status." Hilton is one of the most famous celebrities out there today. If the judge had come across a Hilary Duff it might have been just a slap on the wrist but having Hilton bestowed upon him was a godsend. His right to passage in the legal system.

Finally something more interesting, something that I can read. Keep us more informed with news about "stars"

Liz, I have an employee who went out of state and got arrested for driving on a suspended license that it was very likely he didn't know about, he hadn't lived there for years. They kept him for 40 days and he couldn't work for another month while he got it straightened out. True, sentences can vary...but most judges are not very kind to the "I just didn't know" or even worse, "other people handle that for me" kind of defence. And her mother bleating out at the judge didn't help either, I'm sure. It was obvious that these are people who expect things to go their way, are appalled when they don't.

Come on Jeff. How many people "get off" driving with a suspended license because the aren't celebreties? I really don't think she should have been sentenced to jail time, especially if she was given the sentence because the judge is trying to make an example out of her or he doesn't like her. Furthermore, Paris is harmless. Don't the police officers have better things to do with our tax dollars?

If the judge was a Paris fan, this could have taken a different route. I am not all that fond of her so GO Judge.
