Are you overwhelmed with paperwork? Do one or two rooms in your house look as if a train derailed and paraded on though them? Do you find you can never take care of important household tasks because there is too much overdue stuff to do first? Paper is one of the most common items in a person's household mess pile. It spreads easily to take up a ton of space on floors, desks, inside drawers and often completely dominates individuals' kitchen or other tables until they can no longer serve their original purpose. Paper can lead to severe anxiety, depression, and problems with interpersonal and familial relationships, shame and embarrassment.

Many people would say you are not alone, but as an avid pack rat with an expertise in collecting papers, I am fully aware that this fact is of little help to you. Sure, it's nice to feel like others understand the stress and frustration you feel on a daily basis when trying to confront, not to mention sort though your mounds of old bills, past to-do lists, product manuals, greeting cards or whatever else it is triggering your distress. But it doesn't make us less self-conscious when allowing visitors into our deathtrap of a home and more importantly it does nothing to actually fix the problem.

Takeaways
  • It is not uncommon for people to feel anxiety when tackling their source of household clutter.
  • Household clutter can lead to embarassment, shame and anti-social behavior for many people.
  • Pack rats, collectors, and any average busy person experience the need to organize clutter at times.
Did You Know?
Getting rid of the mess in your living or working area can reduce stress significantly as well as save you time in the future.
