There is a seemingly-endless supply of products and methods designed to assist people in ending their cigarette smoking habit; but while some are more helpful than others, all of the products which you can purchase lack one of the most important factors: they do not provide the hand-to-mouth coordination which many people fail to realize is as equally-relevant to the smoking habit as the aspect of nicotine addiction itself.

If you wish to quit smoking entirely, or even to cut down a significant degree, the familiar sugary childhood treat called Pixy Stix, manufactured by the Nestle company, is, surprisingly or not, one of the most effective aids. Pixy Stix provide a double-benefit-- first, they give you the same hand-to-mouth coordination which mimics cigarette smoking; and second, their sugary substance and variety of semi-tart flavors are as appealing as cigarette smoke. Offbeat as it surely sounds, I highly recommend that anyone wishing to kick the cigarette habit purchase a pack of multi-flavored Pixy Stix.

Most other popular quitting-smoking aids focus on the aspect of nicotine addiction; but while replacing the nicotine in one's system with assorted means of patches, gums, etc., one misses the point that a large focus of cigarette smoking is having something in one's hand. These products are also potentially dangerous, as it is quite difficult to accurately gauge the amount of nicotine each individual is accustomed to in order to not overdo with these replacements. I personally "passed out cold" on a couple of occasions from using a nicotine gum which had a higher concentration of nicotine than my system was used to or could tolerate.

You may also see people in the early stages of quitting who gnaw on such things as straws and toothpicks; but as they beaver away at these objects, it rarely gives them any sense of satisfaction, for chewing does not have the same type of appeal as holding an object in one's hand.

good luck to them both... I know it works- when I was in the position of HAVING TO stop smoking for a long period of time, Pixy Stix did the trick... didn't even have any nicotine cravings!

Great advice! I quit twenty years ago, and it was probably the hardest thing I ever did by will. Wish I'd known this trick! I'm going to forward this link to my son, hint hint...

Great idea! I will forward your article to my son who has tried and failed so many times to give up the smoking habit. That "hand to mouth" concept is something I had never thought of. Kudos to you for writing this!
