World Series Game 5 2009 Could End Series, Season

3
The World Series Game 5 for 2009 could end the 2009 World Series, and is expected to. World Series Game 5 2009 could be an anticlimax, or the World Series could become competitive again. Coming into the World Series Game 5 2009, the Yankees are fully expected to get a 27'th championship at long last, and do it at the home of the defending champions. However, the best hope for the Phillies to extend the World Series after Game 5 is Cliff Lee, their only victor in this series.

World Series Game 5 2009 matches the two best pitchers in this series thus far. Lee gave the Phillies their only win in Game 1, while Burnett sparked the Yankees in Game 2. Since these two dominated in Yankee Stadium, the 2009 World Series has been defined by Yankee rallies and Phillies failures in the clutch.

After such a demoralizing loss in Game 4, the Phillies are expected to finally give up their crown after World Series Game 5. Even if they win tonight, the Phillies would still have long odds to win the next two games at Yankee Stadium. However, the Phillies' only win in this series was in New York, and they know they can contend with the Yankees. Their problem thus far has been finishing games, however.

Heading into the World Series Game 5 2009, Philadelphia does not want to see the road team celebrate a title at Citizens Bank Park, a year after the Phillies did it. They will have to take a page not from 2008, but from 1993. The '93 Phillies lost two bad games to Toronto at home, then breakout ace Curt Schilling pitched a gem to send the series to Game 6 - which they almost won if not for one infamous pitch.

Tonight, the '09 Phillies have their breakout ace coming out to save the season, and if he does it, then anything can still happen in the Bronx. It's only because of their '08 heroes, Cole Hamels and Brad Lidge - and an often cold offense - that the Phillies are in this hole in the first place. Their best hope tonight is for a breakout game from the offense, so Lidge won't be needed.
