Miley Cyrus Song "Party in the USA" Number 1 on VH1 Top 20

Glenn Beck is Right, the End is Nigh

So we were just relaxing for a bit this past Sunday morning while watching VH1's Top Twenty Countdown, listening to a few songs here and there. The Countdown can be hard to watch, but it does fine for background noise. And they do throw some good songs in.

Which is another thing that frosts me. You have good bands like Muse and Foo Fighters, good solo artists like Colbie Caillat and Beyonce, (among others) and a tween queen with the musical ability of an eggplant is sitting at number one with an irritating ditty that makes a music lover want to puke.

Of course I know not to expect too much from Miley Cyrus. Tween music is supposed to be airy and lacking of any virtue. Still, does it have to be number one on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown? Is Glenn Beck right? Are we on the edge of a paradigm shift that will forever alter America? Could be!

And what's with her voice? Again, I'm not expecting the bar to be that high. But damn, she doesn't just sound like she is singing through her nose, but four or five people's noses around her too! And I won't even comment on the Mad Max monkey bars cage dance thing except to say WTF?

Again, not to set the bar too high - I grew up when the Monkees were on television and Bay City Rollers were topping the charts. But the lyrics to the Miley Cyrus hit "Party in the USA" just make me cringe. Apparently, she's a country girl getting off a plane in LAX (never heard that one before) with "a dream and my cardigan" who is wowed by the Hollywood Sign and that fact that "everybody seems so famous" until her cab driver turns on the radio "and the Jay Z song was on." Works for me too. Hear Jay Z and a wave of relaxation rushes over me.

Later she finds herself in a similar quandary which is quelled by "a Britney song was on." Now perhaps you think I should just let Miley Cyrus be, and let her "Party in the USA" until the cows come home. Nah, she puts a song out there, she should expect people to comment. Especially when it's number one on the VH1 Top Twenty Countdown.
