The Best Software for Creating Your Own Custom Font

Let's face it, we're not all talented graphic artists with the skill, time and patience necessary to create our own custom fonts. While it's fun to experiment on paper or with graphics and drawing tools, it is a very time-consuming task. Creating your own custom font is really quite simple with the help of an easy program called Font Creator, which is a product by High-Logic. This software allows you to create custom fonts from scratch and offers the possibility to modify existing fonts already stored on your computer. These capabilities, combined with the ability to easily manage your creations, make the software from High-Logic far better than any others I've tried. Luckily, they offer a trial download for 30 days. This is especially great because this baby is $80 to buy.

The one big drawback to Font Creator is the price. It's simply not feasible for the font enthusiast to spend that much. For those who are in the business of creating logos and working with branding agencies, this would be well worth the money spent. This is especially true because it's possible to scan your computer for existing system fonts and put your own spin on them. For example, while I was doing some work for a friend's business, she needed an elegant header but all the system fonts were too...system-looking. Using the free trial of Font Creator (I know, that's terrible, but I used that program to death-until the trial expired) I created her a custom font that was elegant but didn't look like it came out of Microsoft Word. The fact was, it DID come from Word, I just played with for about 20 minutes until it looked different enough and had its own style. That is what I look for in good custom font creation software
