Maine voting results 2009 are anticipated. The Maine voting results center on the Maine gay marriage vote. How do Maine residents feel about gay marriage and what do the Maine voting results 2009 mean for the rest of the country? We will just have to see.

Why is the Maine gay marriage vote so important to the country as a whole? For starters, gay marriage is a controversial topic. There are those that think we should be free to love and marry whoever we please. Others see marriage as a religious sacrament ordained by God.

Even though gay marriage is legal in a handful of states, gay marriage is never recognized by a state that does not allow gay marriage. Currently, gay marriage is legal in Maine. The Maine gay marriage vote is a vote to potentially repeal the current gay marriage legislation.

According to the Washington Post, although gay marriage repeals have been successful everywhere they have reached the ballot, Maine Governor John Baldacci remains optimistic that the efforts to repeal gay marriage in Maine will be unsuccessful. He says "I believe it's something in the water or the air in this state that recognizes individual rights and anti-discrimination attitudes," the governor said by phone from Augusta, the capital. "It's more of a libertarian-type state than it is Republican or Democrat. We have two Republican senators, two Democratic representatives, and there have been two independent governors."

Why would a state want to repeal gay marriage legislation? Many constituents are concerned that students are being taught in school that marriage between two men or two women is normal, even if this contradicts everything that their parents are trying to teach them.

As we speak, the Maine gay marriage vote is being tallied. How do the residents of Maine feel about gay marriage? Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised either way if the Maine gay marriage vote is thwarted or triumphs. There may be an air of acceptance throughout the state, but then again those with children and those concerned with their own personal set of morals may not want gay marriage present in their state.
