Flight Museums, Battle Ships, UFO's, Missiles, Religion, Cowboys and a Strange House Add Up to Fun
Because of the focus on unusual and informative museums, I've listed these museums alphabetically by states and shared why I still remember these even though for some it's been a number of years since I visited.Even if religion isn't your thing, this outdoor museum dedicated to the work of Benedictine Monk Joesph Zoettel is testimony to humanity's creative capacity and how little one needs to create works of art. Mr. Zoettel created miniature models of the famous religious capitols of the world from cement, shell, marbles and more over a period of fifty years. I've never seen a more unusual hobby or walk and being an outdoor museum makes it a wonderful choice. The visit involves a good walk outdoors and is quite peaceful and scenic.
Titan Missile Museum, Tucson, Arizona, United States
When I read about this unusual museum inside a missile silo I couldn't wait to see it. See inside one of the decommissioned warhead launch facilities and learn from locals that worked inside about what life was like during the cold war including a few accidents, safe guard systems and see examples of nuclear detonations. Scary, and even scarier to think what the military has hidden now.
Bishop Museum and Planetarium, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
See what tropical life was like on the Hawaiian islands including a good diversity of bird feathers and their uses, learn how which constellations are most visible, and how to hula, making it an unusual combination of exhibits from current times to past. This unusual museum has many buildings and live exhibits and the grounds fun to see all on their own.
UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico, United States
