With summer fast approaching, it is time to plan those summer vacations. A popular summer vacation away is to take a ride on a cruise ship. Cruises are all-inclusive fun and often stop at exotic locales. Cruises, however, are notorious for their exceptional food. All-you-can-eat buffets, food at midnight, and tropical drinks galore can all wreak havoc on one's waistline. Here are some tips on how to prevent cruise ship weight gain.

Tip One. Do not forget to pack your sneakers and work out gear. Most cruise ships have a track around the deck for walking or running. What a nice way to take a stroll or a jog while surrounded by crystal blue waters. As advertised on television, cruise ships also offer fitness classes, such as spinning and step. What a great way to try something new!

Tip Two. Cruise ships, of course, are known for their great food. It's an all-you-can-eat feast all day and evening long. Meals are included in the cost of the cruise, so most cruise ship passengers tend to overindulge. But passengers should exercise self-control. The whole experience is included in the cost of the cruise; do not make your waistline pay the price. Most cruise ships offer lighter options. Try to choose these options more often than not. Load up on all of the exotic fruits and vegetables.

Tip Three. Try not to get lured into all of the tropical drinks and alcoholic beverages offered to you non-stop all day long. Not only are they loaded with calories, but they also cost you extra. Instead, drink more water and diet soft drinks. These will keep you hydrated and the weight gain will be minimal. It will also help to keep your wallet fat, without causing you to feel the same.

Tip Four. If you cannot resist trying all of the wonderful food, request smaller portions. Drink cocktails in moderation. And eat regularly to keep your hunger in check to prevent the midnight cruise ship binge. If you cannot resist the midnight special, try to eat lighter during the day.

Nice ideas! This should be read by anyone planning a cruise. You can really pack on the pound in a short time, and that makes you feel bad after your vacation.

I think if you're just going on a week long cruise and its one of only one or two vacations a year, you should just enjoy yourself and not worry about weight gain. Chances are indulging yourself for a week won't make that much of a difference anyway. :) That said, there's plenty to do on cruises to stay active.
