Alcove Cafe and Bakery: A Cozy Los Feliz Cafe with a Lush Outdoor Patio

The upscale community of Los Feliz is home to some of the best quaint little hideaway and enjoyable eateries. The cozy laid back neighborhood attracts the young and upcoming Hollywood crowd but it is also the place for locals to meet friends for a casual social gathering.

On Hillhurst the Alcove Cafe and Bakery is housed in a charming restored bungalow. Next door is the Village Gourmet Cheese and Wine Shop where customers can purchase gourmet imported and hard to find epicurean delights. After a Sunday brunch the Village Gourmet is a great place to browse and create a picnic basket for a day at the park.

My friend Cindy and I decided to meet for a Sunday brunch and sit on the patio and people watch. The only drawback is that weekends can get like the zoo with crowds and parking might be a bit far. But our plan was to have a leisurely brunch and then buy some rich bakery goodies for the following week.

I arrived at the Alcove Cafe first so I checked out the patio area and found a nice table near an outdoor heater. I quickly placed my sweater on one of the mismatched chairs and proceeded in line to wait for Cindy so we could place our orders. The decor is really nostalgic with antique garage sale furniture and early 20th century embellishments.

The menu is extensive and breakfast items are served until 2:30pm. I decided to go with the French vegetarian panini for $10.95 that comes with a side of rosemary potatoes. Cindy arrived in time to order the shrimp and lobster omelet for $13.95.
