The Disastrous Sports Weekend ... And Dez Bryant

What the heck happened to my sports teams this week? I mean, first...Oklahoma State gets embarrassed by the Texas Longhorns AT HOME, and then the Miami Dolphins blow a perfectly good opportunity against the New Orleans Saints. Now I don't even want to log into my Twitter account because all I hear is the New York Yankees.

Now anybody that knows me knows that I have never been a Yankees fan. Never have been, never will be. Will I watch a game if they're playing? Sure, because I love baseball. But rest assured I will be cheering the other team. No, kids, I am a lifelong Chicago Cubs fanatic. We can all thank my stepdad for this. I'll remind him of it one day when I see him in Heaven. Can't wait for that!

Now I find out from Mike Gundy, head coach of the OSU Cowboys, that Dez Bryant was denied his final appeal for reinstatement to the NCAA. The NCAA is enforcing their punishment of ineligibility for one calendar year, which means Bryant wouldn't be eligible to suit up for Gundy until September of 2010. So I'm guessing at this point that his college career is over and he is en route to the NFL Combine, to prep for next year's NFL Draft.

The entire thing is a hoax as far as I'm concerned. The only crime Dez Bryant committed was lying to the NCAA about an interaction he had with Deion Sanders. There was no drug charges, no academic ineligibility, nothing like that. He simply falsified a report of him having any contact with Deion. Fine, you probate him, but you do not declare him ineligible. Because now, the Cowboys have lost a major part of their team.

There is a bright side to this whole mess. It's going to give the OSU players a big chance to step up. Zac Robinson can find a new arsenal to hit the Big 12 with. Between now and the end of the season, there's one game that OSU should have to worry about, and that's the Bedlam game against Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners on November 28th. There should be no reason to lose any game between now and then, and the way OU has been playing lately, there's not really any reason OU should win this game either. I guess now we just sit and wait and see how things play out.
