I received two of these common storage devices to check out and give my opinion on; a 2 gigabyte US Modular Secure Digital card and a 2 GB Flash Drive. The SD card or Secure Digital card is the small memory card often used in digital cameras and for my use as a memory card in a handheld Global Positioning System receiver. The flash drive that I am reviewing is the Professional style of flash drives that you can order from US Modular and have your company logo or emblem imprinted on the side.
These two devices are common in today's work and play technology and many people think as long as they work nothing else matters. Computer components that are manufactured from the best quality chips will perform better and last longer than ones that use inferior technology. That is what I am going to test using the latest benchmark testing in Sisoftware Sandra Lite and checking the read and write capabilities of both these devices against other common memory storage solutions.
I tested the flash drive against two others that I own and have been using for some time. Both are from common manufacturers, Lexar and Sandisk, and work well under most conditions. The main feature I look for now in a flash drive is not the things you might think. Of course capacity or how many gigabytes of information the drive will hold but if you think about using a flash drive for many common tasks one thing that has come up with my uses is the physical size of the flash drive itself.
