Could Texas receive Jordan Shipley win the Heisman Trophy? After the record breaking game by Jordan Shipley on Saturday, that doesn't seem like such the biggest stretch anymore. Lost in a sea of quarterbacks vying for the 2009 college football Heisman Trophy, Jordan Shipley is showing the world that he is truly a gifted wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns. It's Jordan Shipley that is making Colt McCoy look great at quarterback this season, and again Shipley had an extremely impressive game on Sunday against Central Florida that is putting his name in the all time Texas record books.

Not only did Jordan Shipley have a career day on Saturday in Texas, but he had what could be considered the best game ever by a University of Texas wide receiver. The play of the day was when Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley hooked up for a pass that ended up being an 88-yard touchdown for the combo, and pushed Shipley into some very rare air when it comes to receiver games at Texas. When the dust had settled on the Texas vs. Central Florida game, Jordan Shipley had racked up 273 receiving yards to set the all-time record at Texas for receiving yards in a single game. Giving it perspective, the prior record was only 198 yards set way back in 1979.

The impressive game for Jordan Shipley ended up giving 11 catches for those 273 receiving yards and one touchdown. The game pushed his season totals to 70 catches for 1,050 receiving yards and five touchdowns so far in eight games. Passing 1,000 yards already is no small feat, and that makes it the second consecutive season that Shipley has passed 1,000 yards in a season. Last year Jordan Shipley ended up with 1,060 total yards on 89 catches for 11 total touchdowns. With several games to go, surely including a big bowl game for Texas, Shipley looks to really set a new career mark.

Jordan Shipley is officially tossing his hat into the 2009 Heisman Trophy race after his performance against Central Florida on Saturday.
