A Parisian's Guide to Paris: What to See and Do
A Look at the Lesser-Known Hot Spots of Paris
A person can only visit so many tourist traps before they go stir crazy. Once you've seen the Eiffel Tower I encourage you to branch and discover the real Paris. Here are some of my favorite things to do in the city.Spend Time in a Parisian Cafe
The cafes of Paris are the places where artists, philosophers, and writers come together to share their works and ideas. Regular Parisian citizens also stop by their favorite cafes to meet their friends and lovers or to sit and enjoy the weather. Spending time in a Parisian café during your trip is an absolute must.
Strolling Along the Seine
Painters like Monet, Turner, and Sisley all of took inspiration from the Seine River. Lovers still walk along the banks, fishermen try their luck at catching small game, and merchants sell their bizarre goods to tourists and Parisians. I recommend visiting in the daytime and nightime because the atmospheres are distinctly different but equally amazing. A walk along the Seine treats you to the best views in Paris.
A Day At The Races
Paris has eight official horse racing tracks all with a unique personalities. The most famous track is unquestionably the Hippodrome de Longchamp. The Hippodrome De Longchamp hosts The Grand Prix and a number of other high profile events. Races are major social events in Paris so you'll have to dress up for the occasion. The racing newspaper Paris Turf runs weekly and can provide you with a full list of race schedules.
Raise The Dead
You don't have to be superstitious to visit most famous cemetery in Europe:
Pre-Lachaise. Here you can visit the graves of Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Alice B. Toklas, Isadora Duncan, and Frederic Chopin. All the tombs are ornately decorated and eerie looking. Pre-Lachaise gives tourists a view of Parisian history that most visitors will never see.
