What's Worse: Elizabeth Lambert's Incident or the Public Reaction?
New Mexico soccer player was suspended. Elizabeth Lambert, New Mexico soccer player was involved in a physical altercation that landed her suspended from the New Mexico soccer program indefinitely. Elizabeth Lambert mauled an opponent from BYU, throwing her to the ground by her pony tail.According to Examiner, after the Elizabeth Lambert "anger management" incident that got her suspended from New Mexico soccer, she issued the following apology:
I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions. My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration
So far, Elizabeth Lambert is suspended from all athletic facilities and programs indefinitely.
So should Elizabeth Lambert be suspended from soccer forever? Views are mixed. Personally, I don't think her actions were the correct way to act. However, everyone makes mistakes. An indefinite suspension from the New Mexico soccer program seems to be a bit over-kill to me. Perhaps a suspension for the rest of the year would have been enough.
True to the school's Christian roots, BYU student Rob Skidmore wrote an eloquent editorial about the Elizabeth Lambert soccer incident. He states:
What you did was inexcusable and you deserve to be punished. But no one deserves the amount of hate that has been directed at you over the last day. I hope you haven't seen the YouTube video and read the comments because they are disgusting. There are a lot of unforgiving ignorant people in this world. Most of what has been said are empty words spoken in the heat of the moment. Much like you, people do or say things and regret them later. Sometimes the voice of reason gets lost in a storm of the reactionary.

Ron Artest is back and making millions after the Pacers-Pistons brawl (remember him punching fans);
LeGarrette Blount is back on his Oregon Ducks team after his punch of a Boise State player after their opening game.
Brandon Spikes of the Florida Gators is back on his team after trying gouge the eyes of a Georga Bulldog player.
It all comes down to 2 things. 1- how talented are they? and 2-can they help their team win & have they learned their lesson? Can they be aggressive and competitive without going over the line?
Elizabeth Lambert deserves her chance to return. Can she learn to be aggressive up to a limit? I believe she can.
How can she prove this? The only way is to let her back on the team and prove it.
I don't believe she will go over the line again. Her biggest pitfall is that she might over compensate and be too passive and therefore not help her team win games.
I believe that people deserve second chances.

There is no way that this is the first time that she's done this in a game. She's filled with anger and unsportsmanlike conduct. Can you imagine how out of control she is when she's had a few drinks? How about if she gets mad at a child or baby? Totally out of control.

She needs to lose her scholarship if she has one and needs to be kicked off the team. this is what we are teaching girls? It is just soccer...it doesn't matter.
