Best-Made Film Biographies on Musicians Who've Stood the Test of Time

It's only fitting I write an article on biography films about musicians since many of my articles is about music. There are a lot of outstanding films made about musicians lives, not only in contemporary films, but in many classic films too. However, I will focus my attention on the more contemporary made films. These top ten films I have selected are based on what the musician has contributed to the world of music, the actors portraying them, and the overall presentation of the film based on accuracy and performance. They will cover many genres of music and span over many centuries. Every one of these selected movies the actors have either been nominated or won some type of acting award. We'll start off with a great jazz musician.

10.) Bird - Charlie Parker: Clint Eastwood, a great lover of traditional jazz, directed this 1988 tribute film about the life of Charlie "Bird" Parker, his nickname being the title of the film. Forest Whitaker portrays Parker, a jazz saxophonist and a leader of bebop, a form of jazz based on fast tempos, virtuosic techniques and improvisations. The film focuses on a collage of his life that spans his music career, his relationship with Chan Richardson who became his wife, and his extreme addiction to heroin. Charlie Parker died at the age of thirty-four. Forest Whitaker was awarded Best Actor for his role at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival as well as receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.
