Family Activities in Monterey, California for Less Than $7

The Monterey Bay area is home to many families with young children, and does an excellent job catering to those families. The cities in this area are filled with activities to do for people of all ages, but it can be difficult to find fun activities to do while on a budget. Outlined here are four fun things to do or places to go for less than $7.00 per person.

Activity: My Museum
Cost: $2.00-$7.00 per person
My Museum is a children's museum in Monterey, located in the bustling downtown area. My Museum is a hands-on place for kids and parents to play, and is the perfect place to go on a rainy day. Admission is usually $7.00 per person, but the first Tuesday of every month admission is just $2.00. Children under the age of 2 are free.

Activity: Fisherman's Wharf
Cost: Free
Fisherman's Wharf is located in central Monterey, near El Estero Park and close to Presidio of Monterey. Fisherman's Wharf is a fun place to spend a morning or afternoon with children of all ages. It's within walking distance of the Dennis the Menace park, and in the middle of a walking trail. The wharf has all sorts of shops and eateries, and is known primarily for its seal population. Children will love being able to see seals up close in their natural habitat. There are also plenty of seagulls and pelicans who are eager to eat, so be sure to bring some bread crumbs to toss to the birds.

Activity:El Estero Park
Cost: Free
Also within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf, El Estero Park is a great place to spend an afternoon. There's a lake filled with ducks who love to be fed, and paddle boats that can be rented and taken out on the lake. Sidewalks surround the park, making it an ideal place to go for a short stroll in the sun. Inside the park is a life-size train engine that children can play on, a hedge maze, a rock wall, an enormous bridge, tunnels, slides, and climbable play structures. A snack shop is also on the premises - they accept cash only - and serve candy bars, ice cream cones, and sodas. Children will be delighted to drink from the water fountains located at El Estero, which are shaped like lions heads.
