Camping at Watoga State Park in West Virginia
Review of Campground and Cabins at Watoga State Park
Watoga State Park is a West Virginia State Park that offers a large amount of camping for tent and RV campers in their campgrounds as well as rental cabins. Located in southeastern West Virginia, near the state's border with Virginia, Watoga State Park is a great location to stay and enjoy the numerous attractions in the region.Watoga State Park actually offers two campgrounds for tent and RV campers: Beaver Creek Campground and Riverside Campground. Beaver Creek Campground is the original campground at Watoga State Park, located adjacent to the Calvin Price State Forest. Beaver Creek makes a great location for those who wish to enjoy both the more developed aspects of the state park and also access the more natural setting of the state forest. Beaver Creek Campground offers 38 camping sites, 12 with electricity. Most of Beaver Creek's sites offer a picnic table, fire ring or grate, and tent pad. Beaver Creek's camping sites are jumbled together in an uneven way which for the most part allows for fairly secluded sites. The campground has numerous trees that help to add beauty and provide shade. Water, restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities are provided at Beaver Creek Campground.
Watoga's newer campground is Riverside Campground. Located along the Greenbrier River, this is a great place for those who love to fish or otherwise enjoy the water. The campground is situated on the inside of a bend in the Greenbrier River which means that most sites are close to the river, though only 20 or so are actually waterfront. The campground is nicely wooded and provides a nice setting for camping. All of the sites at Riverside Campground provide electricity. Watoga's Riverside Campground provides water, restrooms, and showers.
Watoga State Park actually has a third campground for tent campers as well. Laurel Run campground provides 12 primitive camping sites.
