Visit the Boardwalk at Kemah, Texas

Kemah, Texas: Family Friendly Fun!

Traveling is my life. Occasionally I get home. Home to Texas. Right down the road from Kemah, Texas. My just-about-favorite-place in the great state!

Kemah is located on Galveston Bay off State Highway 146. You can get a directional map at the Kemah website, Kemah.net.

Kemah offers restaurants and entertainment for the whole family. Having survived Hurricane Ike with a few bumps and bruises the city has continued to draw people from all over the world. Galveston is a few more miles down the bay but only Kemah has the Boardwalk, the Lighthouse district, and great parking anytime of day or night.

The Lighthouse district is home to many quaint shops with everything from bathing suits to Christmas decorations. Tucked amongst these stores are small eateries with open patio dining and happy music floating from the bar areas. As stated above parking is great and one can use any of the large lots or choose to park along the streets in the Lighthouse District close to shopping and/or an evening of drinks and dining.

Right there in the same area is the Boardwalk of Kemah. Families are welcome anytime day or night with entertainment for all including an amusement area for kids with rides and even a ferris wheel! There is a neat train ride that travels throughout the whole area giving a little history and a little rest for us older folks. (We get to sit for a bit and watch the people go by.) Along the boardwalk one can buy fish food and feed the catfish or visit the Aquarium and pet the stingrays. During the hot days of summer there is a "misting" area that cools you off as you walk through it. It's wonderful!

Snacks are available everywhere however, let's talk restaurants. Babin's is this writer's personal favorite - set along the water (hmm, upon reflection - all the restaurants are located on the water) with dark warm wood furnishings - a great bar area and plenty of room for private dinners or groups, Babin's offers fresh seafood as well as good steaks. The service is wonderful and the restaurant is kid friendly. (hmm - another reflection - all the restaurants are kid friendly in Kemah).
