Christmas time seems to bring out the best in people. People fall in love. They smile more, laugh more, and give more. My favorite Christmas movies of all time depict those very traits and they are as follows:
The Holiday (2006)---An instant classic, the all-star cast includes Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Eli Wallach. This heart-warming film is about two women who trade homes for two weeks to sort through life's little problems--well, the hardships of love can't really be considered small problems.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)---Starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Randy Quaid, this movie is about a man who is absolutely intent on throwing the perfect Christmas celebration at his house. But nothing seems to go right---from the lights on the house to the tree in the living room to the turkey on the table. This movie doesn't contain a single dull moment, and many can probably relate to some of the debacles. It is fall-out-of-your-chair hilarious.
White Christmas (1954)---This is a wonderful film starring the amazingly talented Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Comprised of a great plot, music, and dance, this classic is an annual must-see.
The Bishop's Wife (1947)---Cary Grant. Enough said.
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)---Maureen O'Hara plays a Macy's executive who does not believe in the existence of Santa Clause and has taught her young daughter the same. In this film, a man is hired as the Macy's store Santa and proclaims himself to be Kris Kringle. He is determined to convince this mother and daughter that he's the real thing.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)---This cartoon is a timeless classic that children and adults alike can enjoy. It is about a reindeer that becomes an outcast because his nose is different from the other reindeer's noses. The movie portrays the journey that he embarks upon to gain self-confidence. In the end, the moral is that our differences make us special.
