Swollen ankles? Back pain? Want to see your feet again? Tired of being a walking womb and ready to be a mommy? I hear you! I have three children of my own and all the labors were long and induced by my doctor. My third pregnancy I was able to start labor naturally but unfortunately was stopped by the nurses. Here are some helpful tips that I have either tried or know someone who has.

First of all there is the ever-famous "Castor Oil". I have tried this and it actually worked. It tastes awful, I recommend mixing it with orange juice. Since it is a laxative, you will probably make several trips to the bathroom. This also makes for some nasty cramps! I only had to take it twice before the contractions started coming fast and furious! I labored for several hours, went to the hospital and was given a morphine shot which ended up stopping my labor. Laxatives relax the uterus, so make sure that you are either very close or past your due date!

Another thing to try is nipple stimulation (Or even intercourse if okayed by your doctor!). My nurse actually told me about this to keep my labor going (I always have "stalled labor", labor that stops around 7 centimeters.) She said to stimulate your nipples simultaneously for 15 minutes, take a 2 minute break and repeat for up to an hour. Nipple stimulation releases a natural drug called Oxytocin (Pitocin is the synthetic drug used by hospitals to mimic Oxytocin). Apparently Oxytocin tells the uterus that "It's time!" Mild exercise is another great way to start labor! You don't want to do anything too strenuous since you will want to save as much energy as you can for the labor part! Walking, swimming, gardening are great ideas. If you have contractions that seem to keep stopping, pay attention to what makes them stronger. If laying down makes them stronger, lay down! If moving around gets them going, keep moving!

Takeaways
  • All natural ways to induce labor
  • Encouraging and real

The date showed June 16th though! Did you have your baby? Or is that date wrong? (I hope so!) ~Angie

I am now 37.2 wks. I have been to the hospital 4 times with strong contractions and the stupid nurses keep stopping them. They want me to wait until I am at least 38 wks. They Are Crazy. I had an ultrasound done at 33 wks and the baby was already showing that it weighd over 6lbs ans it also estimated me 3 wks ahead and they don't want me to give birth......... I Am Not Having A C-section. I am now 4cm dialated and 50%. I've tried everything, walking, some sex, castor oil, nipple stimulation, and messages. I am sooooo tired of being pregnant. What else can I do.

I did everything! Vinegar shots black and blue cohosh walking sex tea nipple stimulation castor oil and my daughters were both still a week late. I think your baby will just come when it's ready! I know it sucks! I'm 37 weeks and 1 day and am already dreading carrying over!

I tried mowing the lawn, moving the refrigertor, castor oil, and sex in evry position possible at 9 months and my son (my second child) was still content to stay inside at 42 weeks! I had to be induced.

Well, I am not a doctor but you can call a midwife and ask or check the internet. I did a lot of walking with my first and she was 5 days late. I did as much strenuous stuff as I could. Don't over-exert yourself, you don't want to endanger the baby. Make sure you wait until you are close to your due date...you don't want early labor either. If all else fails, be patient and know that the baby will be here very soon!!!

If I have a second child I hope I'm not crazy near the end and try inducing labor. I walked like crazy, ate unripe papaya, and even tried some sort of special tea trying to get my labor to start! I ended up having my son 4 days late . . .ha!
