Review: Lazy Boy Saloon, Best Bar for Beer in White Plains, Westchester County New York

Come for the Beer, Stay for the Bands and the Chicken Wings

When you walk into Lazy Boy Saloon in White Plains, the first thing that you notice is the beer menu. It stretches all across the wall over the bar, and includes a huge variety of beers. According to Lazy Boy's website, this popular Westchester bar offers more than five hundred varieties. The labels range from American grocery-store staples like Budweiser and Coors, to regional beers like Massachusetts's Smuttynose and Vermont's Long Trail, to import beers from 29 different countries.

This is good news if you never travel farther from White Plains than North White Plains: at Lazy Boy you can try beer from Thailand or Trinidad without having to leave Westchester county. Although most customers agree that the beer selection is the best thing about Lazy Boy, the bar also has a good selection of spirits, mixed drinks and shots. The focus on beer also shows in the décor. With so many beer signs on the walls the atmosphere at Lazy Boy Saloon is definitely more about comfort than style.

Before it turns into a crowded White Plains bar at night, Lazy Boy runs as a pub with an large dinner menu. The food is mostly standard bar fare, featuring burgers, pizza, salads and sandwiches. Food is served until late. The chicken wings are very popular and have been voted the best wings in Westchester county several times. I haven't tried all the wings in Westchester, but Lazy Boy Saloon definitely has some of the best wings in White Plains, and a large plate split between friends disappears fast.

The vegetarian options at Lazy Boy are limited - There's meat in almost everything, like the bacon that comes on the white pizza - but the bar's friendly-but-busy staff seem like they'd be happy to take special requests. There's also a children's menu, though parents with babies might have trouble changing diapers in the bar's tiny bathrooms.

At night Lazy Boy turns into a packed but laid-back bar with frequent events, live music and promo nights. Lazy Boy's great live bands, solid menu and huge beer selection make Lazy Boy your best bet for a bar in White Plains to relax with a beer, live music, and some friends on a Friday night.
