Don't be stuck in the acne myth cycle. Myths are things that many people believe to be true. The danger with acne myths is that you can be causing acne and damaging your skin by believing the myths. It's important to separate facts from fiction with acne myths. Read about these common five myths about acne.

Myth #1: Bad hygiene is believed to cause acne. This is so untrue. You might make your acne worse by scrubbing your face and washing too often. Use a mild soap and rinse with water. Gently wash your face. Pat it dry. You remove dirt without damaging the skin.

Myth #2: Chocolate, caffeine, fried foods and other goodies can cause acne. Food does not increase your chances of acne. If you feel that you are having a food reaction, limit those foods in your diet. A well balanced diet will keep your overall skin healthier. Myth #3: Stress is believed to cause acne. Every time I get stressed out I get an outbreak is a common statement from people. What actually causes acne is the side effect of many stress medications. If you're taking stress meds then you might be reacting to the prescriptions.

Myth #4: Acne isn't curable. You just have to live with it is another common myth. If you take care of your skin and use products you can reduce or even completely get rid of acne. It is a long term maintenance that you have to do daily all of your life. Adults and kids can get acne. Learn what things in your life contribute to your acne outbreaks.

Myth #5: Acne scarring is all my fault is another myth about acne. Acne scarring is caused by damage to the skin. The skin can't heal up from it. Some acne scarring is caused by acne coming to the same spot over and over. The skin can only heal so fast and so much. You can never squeeze a bump in your life and still get acne scarring.
