I found that I was more interested in English than in any other subject, when I was in my seventh standard because I was scoring good marks in that subject. I was studying in a Telugu medium school and the standards of our English teachers were also not up to the mark. After the introduction of Telugu medium in the schools and colleges of Andhra Pradesh in 1968 through Telugu Academy by the government of Andhra Pradesh, the standards of students in English drastically deteriorated. I am also a victim of this regionalization of education in India. I scored 82 marks in English for 100 in my seventh standard.

I entered the Andhra Pradesh Residential School for Boys at Bhoopathipalem in East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh in 1990 through a state-wide entrance test. Even at this school I retained my love for English language and scored good marks in the public examinations of tenth class. Our classmates used to call me English Pundit. This appreciation further developed my love for this language. I was not good at English grammar because not a single teacher taught it well to me in any class during these ten years of my education.

I scored considerably good marks even in my Intermediate. Our English lecturers used to consider me good at English. To retain their love for me, I used to be more focused on English.

In my B.A. also I scored good marks in English.

I entered the University of Hyderabad in 2000 and came out of it in 2002 with a second-class MA degree in my hands. I did not improve my English even here because we were not taught English as a language over here because they thought that we already mastered the language. I was feeling humiliated to see people talking and writing great English despite belonging to other branches of subjects other than English literature or Linguistics.

Thank you Gyani for your constructive feedback. I found some grammatical mistakes in this article also in my second reading of it. Sometimes it is lack of time that makes us write bad English. In other words, having a little time only to finish writing something and posting it on an online site. We must concentrate on intensive editing to keep our writings a bit flawless.
