Myrtle Beach: The Friendliest City in America

2
As a Hoosier, I'm supposed to be full of hospitality, full of friendliness, because that is what being a Hoosier is all about. However, while I don't always find other Hoosiers as friendly as I try to be, when I travel south, I find some of the friendliest people I have ever met. I have met hospitable people in Florida, but the friendliest are right down there in South Carolina in the big tourist city called Myrtle Beach.

Over the past several years I have travelled to Myrtle Beach four times, and every time I find people who are hospitable to my family and me. The last time my two children and I ventured there we stayed at a small motel called the Sand Bucket Motel, located at 603 North Ocean Boulevard. Upon arrival, a couple in their mid to late 40s greeted us. I must say I love the sound of the southern accent; I have always been interested in accents, especially when I don't hear different ones very often. This couple had a definite southern accent and greeted us in such a way that made us feel right at home. The woman and her husband owned the small motel, one of the last remaining motels on the strip, and told me she was amazed at my ability to drive two children and a dog so far from home. I simply smiled at her and thanked her for the compliment.

One of the best things to do in Myrtle Beach is called Broadway at the Beach, a 350- acre area of shopping, restaurants, hotels, and plenty of things to do. This area, located at 1325 Celebrity Circle, has everything you could ever need or want while there except it is not on the beach. Hotels, such as Fairfield Inn and Hampton Inn, surround the outer edges while the stores and some restaurants surround the 23-acre lake in the middle. My children enjoyed eating at Senor Frog's, the only version of this restaurant in the United States, Hard Rock Café, and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. I must say Margaritaville was probably our favorite place to eat while there just because of the fun atmosphere. I mean what better way to enjoy a meal than to listen to Jimmy Buffet songs and have fun with your family.
