Always Getting Zapped by Static Electricity? It's a Real Condition Called Bioelectricity, not Coincidence

Do you hesitate before touching a car door for fear of being shocked? A freezer door at the supermarket? Do your friends cast you a wary glance when you walk towards them--especially in the winter? Do electronic devices malfunction unusually often in your presence? Can you sense the presence of an electrical device on in another room? If you answer yes to at least two of these questions then you may be one of the many people who are hyper-electric.

Everyone experiences static electricity. But electric people appear to get a lot more than the common static charge.

Experiences range from the common -- the person who experiences normal static in the winter time, to the extreme-- the person who claims that their mere presence frequently causes electronic equipment to malfunction. The number of people who exhibit the latter is unknown, but there are indeed people who seem to have this effect. Cases go back far in history and include unverified tales of babies born shocking people right after coming out of the womb.

Bioelectricity is not a supernatural phenomenon. Everyone is "electric" to some degree. Indeed, electrical currents flow constantly within us and without bioelectricity we die. Some people, however, appear to be super-charged. I was surprised to discover how many people are impacted by this and how many seem embarrassed by their extra "charge." It isn't anything shameful. That is easy for me to say, though. I am not nearly as electric as many of the hyper-electric people.

In the winter time I often carry anti-static dryer sheets with me. It doesn't keep me from major shocks but it does help tame my wild hair a bit. I still insist on wearing synthetic fleece, which is just asking for a shock. Going to the grocery store in the winter is an adventure. If someone is with me I will ask them kindly to please open the doors to the freezer for me. Cold metal and dry air is not a good combination. The shocks have been loud and painful enough to take my breath away.

Bea you truly have my sympathies. I am glad I am currently not having that occur

You betcha I am. I have had someone put money into my hand in the wintertime and had it literally jump back out instantly. I hate it. I'm afraid to touch my car door and touching another part doesn't help at all. I've even gotten shocked right through my sleeve (two sleeves to be exact...coat and sweater) when using that instead of my hand. Often the crack like lightening can be plainly heard. This past winter has been the worse ever, and I've noticed even this past summer that there've been times when I've gotten hit which was never the case before. Any wonder why I love humidity lol.

hi Val-- I hope that gets better soon

Wow. I thought I was the only one. Thanks for this topic. What's weird is that when I was younger the condition was much worst, but then it just went away. I haven't had this problem in several years, but recently (last few months) it's come back. I'm concerned I'll fry the light switch because the sparks are pretty bad on that. Note to self: Must remember to get grounded first.

meee-- Aside from the usual static electricty, I am concerned that your lap top may have a short-circuit or something else wrong there besides the broken exhaust fan. Laptops have been known to catch fire, so please be very careful! I hope you aren't using that particular laptop anymore. I sure wouldn't recommend it. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by. Helen--you are very welcome. Thanks for stopping by :)

mygosh. i could so relate to this.ive had 5 zaps today.and all were when i touched my laptop. its so annoying. does it have anything to do with the computer? you see, i used to use a laptop with a broken exhaust fan (the keyboard gets really hot) and it probably ruined my hands or something. its annoying coz everytime i touch somebody we both get zapped. what should i do?

Helen, one thing that helps me ( when I remember to do it) is to carry a couple of anti-static dryer sheets in my pocket. Someone earlier mentioned spraying static guard on clothes too. I haven't tried that yet. If you don't have a humidifier in your home, you might want to get one. That might help cut it down a little bit too--at least while you are at home. You can also avoid certain fabrics that tend to create a lot of static. Other than those things I really don't know, unfortunately.

I hate static elecrticity...Every single time i go to get in or out of the car, i cringe. I get shocked every single time. And they are always big painful shocks. Someone always has to open the door for me, and i close the car door with my foot. I've never shorted anything out. But i'm constantly shocking myself and other people, Pretty much on a daily basis. It's sooo annoying..can i do anything about it???

I think this kind of sensitivity to electricity is much more common than some may think. I imagine a lot of people just don't give it a lot of thought. I am enjoying reading the comments here. I've noticed that the newest grocery stores here have rubber handles on the freezer doors. I don't know if that is just for looks or to keep people like us from getting terrible shocks. Whatever the reason I am happy about it

10 years ago i was in a seaside resort with electrical storm happening. stuck my hand out the window, felt tingling, pulled it in, did it again, same thing. today i woke up with tingling hand, wondered about connection to other physical problem.. realized that i am picking up electricity when i get near people, in my right hand, not so much in my left. kind of funky. i can also feel the energy of my babe while sleeping, can feel when i enter her field with my hand, and even really feel like she is breathing into my hand...almost moves it. glad to see some others have same. i recently heard that some people hear a buzz in the city where i am , like electricity. wonder if my daughter hears it, very sensitive..
