Water on the Moon an Amazing Discovery...Or is It?

Does Finding Water on the Moon Really Matter?

7
Water on the moon was found recently. Scientists always believed water on the moon existed. The water that was found on the moon was really ice, which should give scientists plenty of information about the our solar system's past.

At first, searching for water on the moon sounded like an irresponsible way to spend taxpayer dollars. After all, unemployment is reaching double-digit percentages and billions of dollars have been wasted already by padding the pockets of businessmen. Why on earth with all the other problems our country has would we be searching for water - on the moon?

Scientist found out a lot about the earth's history by researching polar ice. Ice on the moon could give them the insight they need to figure out how the moon was formed. According to Time, the moon could contain any number of particles. The ice found could also give scientists insight on if the moon really used to be a chunk of earth.

In addition according to SF Gate, the amount of water found on our moon shows that it could be possible to build a colony on the moon. The water would need to be used to make oxygen for breathing, drinking water, and rocket fuel. Although a civilian colony may be unlikely, this type of colony could be used for astronauts in lieu of a space station.

Even though the discovery is exciting, is it really necessary? Isn't there a better way to spend money than searching for ice on the moon? While many people are excited about the discovery, the excitement is somewhat limited to those within the scientific community and a handful of "regular Joes" that find the discoveries intriguing.

Now that we know what exists on the moon, even more money will need to be spent for scientists to do further exploration to come to conclusions. Before you know it, billions of hard-earned dollars will be wasted chasing something that may or may not improve our life here on earth.
