Is attraction just a matter of chemistry?

Maybe. In the animal world the attraction between two animals of the opposite sex is controlled by chemicals known as pheromones. One of the most studied subjects by scientists is the effect of pheromones in the behavior of insects. In some studies it has been observed that pheromones are responsible for communication among some species and colonies of ants. There are some species of apes that rub urine that contains pheromones on potential mates' feet in an effort to attract them. The offensive odor that is released by skunks to ward off enemies is also said to be a type of pheromone. Scientists have concluded that female insects and mammals send out signals to the male of their species that their genes are different. Gene diversity in critical in producing offspring with above average chances of survival. Animals such as the whale and the musk deer have been known to be sought by the perfume industry for these chemicals. Pheromones are being used by the perfume industry to increase sexual attractiveness to the opposite sex.

Are there laws about attraction between two people? "Opposites attract" is a law of attraction, as far as electromagnetism is concerned. But is it a law between two people?

Interesting article. I don't believe that personality is a factor in sexual attraction, but certainly it is a factor in attraction overall.
