Bleaching Skin Becoming a Trend?

Celebrities Do the Darnest Things

Former slugger legend Sammy Sosa has surprised his fans and media recently after he apparently bleached his skin to look somewhat Caucasian. The photos are very disturbing and are possibly offensive to those who have darker skin because Sammy Sosa was once brown skinned before the so-called skin rejuvenation treatment. Personally, I think it is so wrong on many levels he was an inspiring athlete and individual for those of Dominican heritage. Regardless of what Sammy does next, I will still like him. He has every right to do what he wants with himself, but how can someone decide to make such a drastic change within a few days? Another thing the media noticed from his dramatic transformation was his hair. It looked like he had it straightened which lead many to believe that his current look may permanent. If you compare his recent photos to what he used to look like when he played in the majors, you will notice that his hair was a bit on the curly side. Nobody necessarily knows if Sosa's decision was an impulse from within, but hopefully it is not a beginning of other extreme changes.

Sammy Sosa will always be remembered for his baseball days and not this so it is best to let it slide for now since he mentioned that it was just treatment. Michael Jackson actually had a pretty good excuse regarding his unusually pale skin because he was suffering from vitiligo. Jackson had to bleach his skin because the patches of white skin were very noticeable on him, especially on his hands. Sosa was an incredible slugger and accumulated over 60 homeruns in three different seasons which has never been done before by any major leaguer. He is one of my all-time favorite baseball players because of his rise to superstardom (much unexpected). Nobody would have thought that he would be chasing Roger Maris's homerun record alongside Mark McGuire. Sosa is currently retired and expecting a Hall of Fame Induction by the year 2013. Sosa will always be best known for his years with the Chicago Cubs. Info regarding Sosa's mini-bio and baseball stats can be found at ESPN.
