Great Food on Kauai Makes Your Vacation More Pleasurable

After a wonderful two-week vacation on Kauai, I wanted to pass along my dining experiences at Kauai restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised by several Kauai restaurants and even went back to a few of them two or three times. Most Kauai restaurants have great views overlooking the ocean or lush gardens, and some Kauai restaurants are quite romantic. The majority of Kauai restaurants all feature some form of fish and most fish specials are caught daily by local fisherman and delivered to the restaurants.

There's an abundance of restaurants on this small island and you'll need to make reservations for most of them. Dining in most Kauai restaurants is informal although nightly attire of a nice sundress for women and a tropical shirt for men is common. We found that most of the better Kauai restaurants are on the south shore in Poipu. There are some good ones in Lihue and Kapaa.

Kauai restaurants have unique tropical drinks that are created by each restaurant so be sure to check out the tropical drink menu at every restaurant. A few tropical drinks worth mentioning are the Plantation Breeze and Cucumber Mojito at the Plantation Gardens Restaurant. Tidepools has a fabulous drink with vanilla ice cream, macadamia nut liquer, and a crushed banana.

For nice dinners, my husband and I both choose Cafe Portofino as our favorite Kauai restaurant and we dined there three times. Each time was a pleasurable experience. Cafe Portofino is Italian cuisine and located in Lihue at Marriott's Kauai Beach Club & Resort. This restaurant is located on the beach with dining indoors and out.
