Missouri Highway Patrol Responds to Two Fatal Accidents on Friday the 13th
The Missouri Highway Patrol seemed to escape the bad luck of Friday the 13th this year. With fewer than seven serious accidents and only two fatalities for the night, according to Missouri's public crash reports. That is less than the prior week, which resulted in six fatalities on November 6.
Accident 1: Pedestrian dies after trying to Cross Major Roadway in Andrew County
The first fatality on Friday the 13th in Missouri involved a driver and a pedestrian in Andrew County. According to the Accident Report, Trooper Black assisted by Trooper Graham, as well as the Andrew County Sheriff Department and the Andrew County Rural Fire Department responded to the scene to investigate the accident, which occurred at Business US 71 about 1 mile North of St Joseph at 6:40pm. Michael D Coleman, 25, of Elwood Kansas, was driving his 2002 Honda Civic heading South on Business US 71 when James W. Cahill, 44, of St Joseph, Missouri, "attempted to cross the roadway from east to west and walked into the path" of Mr. Coleman's vehicle. According to Highway Patrol, Mr. Cahill was taken to Heartland Hospital in St Joseph by Andrew County Ambulance. At 9:02 pm Mr. Cahill was pronounced dead by Dr. Edward Andres at Heartland Regional Medical Center. This is the 4th fatality for the Month of November and the 32nd overall for the 2009 year for Troop H according to Highway Patrol.
Accident 2: Jennifer Ellis Faces Pending Charges After Killing Centerview Woman in Head On Collision
The second fatal accident on Friday the 13th, in Missouri involved 2 vehicles in a head on crash on NW 501 in Johnson County and marked Troop A's 58th fatality of 2009. Trooper Baughman of Troop A, Missouri Highway Patrol responded to the accident at 4:10pm when a 2009 Honda driven by Jennifer R Ellis, 24 of Sedalia, Missouri crossed over into the opposite lane of driver Genevieve Bagnell, 69 of Centerview, Missouri, striking her car head-on. Both vehicles were completely totaled and towed away by Joe's Towing.
