PayPal Versus Google Checkout
Both PayPal and Google Checkout offer buyers and sellers the opportunity to conduct business without the exchange of personal or financial information and while these are both excellent platforms for exchanging goods and services
online, it seems that PayPal has the upper hand. However, with this said, there is no doubt that the almighty Google will eventually work out the kinks and emerge as the leader, especially in terms of its protection against fraud. For now, it is safe to say that in a contest, PayPal is still better than Google Checkout for a few important reasons.
The most important reason why PayPal is better than Google Checkout is simply because PayPal is recognized as a trusted form of online payments because it's been around for so many years. Although people, for the most part, are likely to trust the Google name, it's still hard to make the switch for many folks, simply because they've finally got a grasp on how the PayPal system works and like to stick with it-especially if they haven't had trouble in the past. Many people already have an existing PayPal account, particularly if they ever used eBay and more importantly, Google Checkout doesn't have the kind of platform PayPal did when eBay was launched and might suffer a slow start. This is a problem for sellers online because they now have to deal with two accounts instead one (just PayPal) because offering Google Checkout as the only option would discourage sales since people don't want to take the time to set one up, especially if something is an impulse buy. In short, although it stinks for Google Checkout, the transition (or integration) of Google's payment program will take some time.
