My Trip to Gatlinburg
My friend and I decided to take a weekend trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Gatlinburg is a really cute town, but it can be kind of expensive to do the activities there. The hotels and motels are reasonable priced, and we got a Tennessee travel book and took advantage of the hotel coupons. That made the expense much easier to handle. With the coupon the room was only about $40.00 a night and we ended up staying two nights. The hotel was right in the middle of Gatlinburg and it really was in a great location. We were able to eat, drink, and play without killing ourselves from walking up and down the street (which by the way... is a big hill).
If you have ever been to Gatlinburg you would know that the downtown area is not a place where you can just hop to one place to another in a vehicle. Plus, most places charge for parking. We stayed at the Riverside Motor Lodge and that hotel didn't even allow parking for more than one car. We had two cars and we ended up having to park one car about a mile away from our hotel. I will just mention one more thing about the hotel we stayed at. There was no hot water. The water was warm at the very best. It didn't even stay warm for more than 5 minutes without turning cold. If you want a hot shower in the morning don't stay there.
One of my favorite restaurants was a place called Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and although it was a little pricey it was worth it. I had a sampler appetizer for my meal and my friend had the coconut shrimp dinner. They had a great way of knowing when the customers needed or wanted anything. They have a sign on each table that says "Stop! Forest, Stop!" or "Run! Forest Run!" and if you need service you switch the sign to "Stop! Forest Stop!" and then the servers will come to your table and get whatever it was that you needed. That sign idea was great. We were never interrupted in a conversation and the server didn't have to waste his time checking on us every five minutes.
