Grizzlies Lose Allen Iverson, Tinsley to Pick Up the Scraps
Iverson Seperates from Grizzlies After Only 2 Months
Allen Iverson has been on leave for "personal reasons" from the Memphis Grizzlies since November 7. Just a little over a week later, Grizzlies General Manager, Chris Wallace, explained how, "As a result, we will be ending our contractual agreement with Allen, which will allow both parties to move forward. We wish Allen the best.""The Grizzlies and Allen Iverson have come to a mutual agreement that because of personal matters that forced him to leave the team on November 7, Allen will step away from the game at this time, allowing him to focus on those matter," stated Wallace.
The Future is Unsure
After 13 years of playing professional basketball for 3 other teams before the Grizzlies, Allen Iverson leaving them after a short 2 months comes as a surprise. No longer playing, it is still a wonder to all of us whether he is officially going to call it quits and retire or if he is just going to take some time off and return to the NBA as a free agent. As of yet, there is no official notice.
New Signing Jamaal Tinsley to Compete with Mike Conley
The good news from this goes to Jamaal Tinsley. Having just signed him after being unsure of Allen Iverson's situation, he is now in a more important position and will be expected to hold the team together. The youthful Grizzlies needed an experienced player and that is exactly what Jamaal Tinsley has to offer.
Having a questionable history in the past which involved a bar-room brawl and a drive-by shooting targeted at him, Tinsley will not have a definite starting position. He will be competing for the position as the starting guard with Mike Conley.
No matter who starts, Tinsley's addition to the team will have to make up for the loss of Allen Iverson. A hard role to fill but the competition between Jamaal Tinsley and Mike Conley should push each harder than before and benefit the team. Sitting 1 position over last place in the Western Conference of the NBA with a 2-8 record, the Memphis Grizzlies can only benefit.
