A Great Party Favor for Bridal or Baby Showers

Flower pens are a great summer or spring craft to do with children or teens. Additionally, flower pens make an excellent decoration and party favor for wedding showers, baby showers, and girls' birthday parties. This is a simple and inexpensive craft that is fun for all ages.

Supplies. First of all you will need to assemble your supplies. You will need several thin bodied, ballpoint pens. Fountain pens will not work well because once your craft is completed you will not be able to replace the pen caps. You will also need green floral tape and various silk flowers (daisies and other flat flowers work especially well). Those are all the supplies you will need to make your flower pen craft!

Procedure. To make your flower pens, start with one of your ballpoint pens. Remove the cap. Take one of your silk flowers and cut the wire stem so that it is just less than the length of the pen. Setting the flower head right on the non-writing end of the pen, hold the wire stem snugly against the pen. Next, begin to tightly wrap floral tape around the pen and the wire stem, securing the wire stem to the pen. You will need to make sure you keep the flower head in place as you do this. Wrap the floral tape around the pen several times to secure it. Once you have secured the stem to the pen, tear off your floral tape from the roll and press down the end firmly with your fingers. Floral tape sticks to itself, so no adhesives are required for this step. You have now created your own flower pen craft!

Applications. Flower pens make a great centerpiece for a baby or wedding shower. Take a large glass vase and fill it with sand or glass marbles. Take your various assembled flower pens, and place them, flower side up, in the vase. They will stand tall by being stuck in the sand or marbles and you will create a lovely silk flower arrangement. As your guests leave, simply ask them to take along a flower pen as a favor. You can also use flower pens as a guest book signing pen, or to use for writing down which guests brought what gifts. If you are giving away bagged favors at your party, try attaching a flower pen to the outside of the bag for a decorative, and also functional, addition.
