After narrowly losing the 2000 Presidential Election, former Vice President Al Gore changed the focus of his life to save the planet. An Inconvenient Truth, Gore's Academy Award winning documentary, was created to dispel myths and misconceptions on global warming, and bring a halt to environmentally destructive behaviors. In an attempt to further draw attention to his cause, Gore also announced a series of music concerts on each of the seven continents.

However, shortly after An Inconvenient Truth received the title of "best documentary" from the Academy, the "inconvenient truth" of Gore's personal residence began circulating online and in the media. Consider these facts from the Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR):

* The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh-more than 20 times the national average.

* Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh-guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore's average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

* Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore's energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

* Gore's extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore's mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

Gore Strives to Improve His Home
Since these facts have come to light, Gore has made changes to his home in an effort to make it less environmentally damaging. Gore presented a response detailing his actions to Think Progress, a liberal blog, stating:

1) Gore's family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.

Did You Know?
The ranch home of George W. Bush uses roughly a quarter of the energy of a traditional home. Al Gore's home, on the other hand, gobbles up more energy in a month than an average home does in a year.

Im sure Al rides a bike when he needs to go across country. It will give him plenty of time to figure out how we are heating up Mars as well. Couldnt be a pattern could it?

I was in error when I said the President takes a private 757 aircraft to Crawford. He actually takes the 747 AF-1 which uses twice the fuel of the 757. The 747 lands in Waco then a motorcade of no less than 20 vehicles escorts the President to the Ranch. I'd venture to say the emissions from one trip (one-way) to Crawford is about three times Gore's home's emissions for a year. The first lady and parents use the 757 when the President is not traveling with them. Sorry for the error.

Sure Gore's house needs to be greener. Does that mean that global warming is a myth? NO. I was just as shocked as you were to see Gore's homes carbon footprint is so high. The Bush's Crawford Ranch might be green, but how do you think they get there? They jump on a private 757 aircraft whose fuel one-way to Crawford is equal to the a year's worth of Gore's homes emissions.

Unfortunatly there are a lot of people like Bill in the US, they are gulible, and brain washed, and never look at the facts

Bush's personal residence is too little too late. He should have signed the Kyoto treaty and pushed the US to be a global leader in energy and water conservation. Instead, the US lags behind and loses huge economic opportunities. The US plundering the earth has been needlessly extended by the Bush administration. Gore's personal residence surely needs an update and reflects the very past behavior he advocates changing. Gore's personal appearances and movie are the right thing at the right time.
