Lou Dobbs Resigns from CNN: An Overt Racist or a Brilliant Publicist for Himself?

Lou Dobbs Forced to Resign from CNN Under Renewed Pressure for His Thinly Veiled Racist Remarks on the Network

It seems that Lou Dobbs, who seemed to be unchallenged by his network, CNN, has finally succumbed to the pressures and resigned. Although, statements have been made contrary to the fact that Lou Dobbs was actually fired, there's been some intense pressure applied on CNN and this resignation was probably an attempt to give Lou Dobbs a way out without destroying his career totally.

This show brought us the racist solution on how to get rid of illegal Mexican immigrants, New Yorkers should order pizza and then do a citizen's arrest on the delivery person (Lou Dobbs thought this was hilarious when a guest came up with the idea on the show).

In reflecting on comments on Condeliza Rice, on her famous America's "Birth Defect" speech, he was in a heated moment and he was talking about her speech from his point of view and slipped and said, "not a single one of these cotton..." on the air with Wolf Blitzer. He recovered in the middle of the statement and changed course, but, many African-Americans pointed it out to CNN in the days afterward.

He would also make the statement about Homeland Security Chairman Benny Thompson (an African-American), "He's out of his cotton picking mind." during a heated debate about the fence system along the Mexico border to keep out illegal aliens and combat illegal drugs from entering the country.

These are just some of the minor incidents that bordered overt racism that Lou Dobbs was involved in during his time at CNN and some people are wondering how he made it as long as he did. He did represent a large majority of conservative American's views, sometimes views that weren't even openly discussed by anyone except Lou Dobbs, on his show.

Lou Dobbs is best known for reporting that it was because of illegal immigrants that we were having an influx of "highly contagious diseases" that were coming into the country "decades after we eradicated them here". His delusional statements about 7,000 new cases of Leprosy was challenged and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that his numbers were way off, he did not admit his information was wrong.
