Dinners on Thanksgiving day require special prayers and toasts. This article uses some special quotes from special people in regards to Thanksgiving. It is a time for family and getting back to the basics. Hopefully, these quotes will assist you this year.

Arthur Guiterman, " So once every year we throng upon a day apart to praise the Lord with feast and song in thankfulness of heart." This was used at the first Thanksgiving.

John F. Kennedy, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live them."

Ed Sanford Martin, " Thanksgiving day comes by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow."

Phillips Brooks, " Stand up on this Thanksgiving day, stand upon your feet. Believe in man. Soberly and with clear eyes, believe in your own time and place. There is not, and there never has been a better place and time to live in."

William Shakespeare, "O Lord that lends me life, Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness."

These are excellent quotes to go with a Thanksgiving toast in 2009. Many families have a family prayer. The family prayer includes blessings from the past year, family members serving in the military, members that are absent for various reasons, good health and prosperity.

Toasts can be given by just about anyone. Many families will have each member of the family make a brief toast. Some, will just have one person designated in the family to make the toast. Their job is to try and cover all areas of importance on behalf of everyone.

Toasts are usually given before the meal. Sometimes, they are combined with the prayer. However, there is nothing wrong with having a toast opposite of the meal. It could be held, when everyone is present or just before everyone leaves for the day.
