Let's just cut to the chase. South Africa is absolutely amazing!! There's no better way to describe it.

The flight to South Africa was about 15-hours non-stop. For our trip, we landed in Johannesburg and immediately took another two hour flight to Capetown for a total of 17 hours. It sounds exhausting however, when you're excited, who cares!

Capetown is known for its scenery and our first tour stop was Table Mountain and yes, it's called Table Mountain because the top is flat like a table. You can cable or hike up but, since I'm not that adventurous or athletic, I waited for the cable and trust me, I wasn't by myself. The cable ride was adventurous in itself as it ascended along the side of the mountain. At the top, there is plenty of space to walk so, even though the less adventurous chose to cable up, we still had a great hiking experience and the view was incredible! I have never seen the water and sky so blue in my life. It was absolutely serene and everywhere we walked, there were people who stopped to sit and reflect on the scenic beauty of Capetown. Want to touch a cloud? Well, you'll have your chance on this mountain. There was a cloud that hung low and rested on the mountain. Those who walked on that side had that experience and loved it!

All aboard to Robben Island! Also add to your tour package a boat ride to Robben Island, which is where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner. The boat ride was about an hour and, once we arrived on the island, we were led on a tour of the facilities by an ex-political prisoner who was in jail at the same time as Nelson Mandela. It wasn't until the tour was over that I realized there were probably sharks in the water but, since no one had an issue of blood, we weren't in danger...I guess.

Speaking of Nelson Mandela, we also toured the Apartheid Museum. There is so much history in the museum that you need to set aside a lot of time to read it all. It's heaven on earth for history buffs!
