Some of the best distance racers in the United States ply their trade at Southland Greyhound Park, a dog track located in West Memphis, Arkansas. Southland has a true 3/8ths of a mile distance, 660 yards, and a longer semi-marathon course that is 703 yards long. The Arkansas oval boasts a youngster that has dominated thus far on the 3/8ths yardage, a three year old that has won her last four marathons, another pup that closes like the wind over both distances, and a couple of veteran campaigners that go to the lead and dare the rest of the field to catch up. Also, there is a just turned two female that has the look of perhaps the best of them all, after running only a handful of races over the Southland distances.

Kiowa Apple Lyde is certainly among the premier 3/8ths greyhounds in the entire nation, and the dark fawn male has only just recently turned two back in April. Apple Lyde almost broke the Southland 3/8ths standard on April 23rd, missing by less than just thirty- hundredths of a second of bettering Okie Lynda's record of 36.28 seconds, set -back in 2004 on what is called the Razorback Course. Apple Lyde has been first across the finish line in thirteen of his twenty-one 2007 efforts, and appears ready to move from the 660 yards to the longer marathon any time now. Apple Lyde is able to lead a race all the way from box to wire and can close with the best of Southland's routers.
